Forging Heritage and Innovation: Artisans and AK Steel International

15.06.2026

When traditional craftsmanship and ARMCO® Pure Iron combine to preserve historic masterpieces and inspire contemporary designs.

In the world of artistic ironwork, the balance between heritage preservation and contemporary creation requires not only exceptional craftsmanship but also materials of uncompromising quality. This is precisely where the collaboration between skilled blacksmiths, artisans and AK Steel International has developed into lasting and trusted partnerships.

Across Europe and beyond, craftsmen rely on AK Steel International to supply specialized materials, particularly ARMCO® Pure Iron, for demanding restoration and artistic metalwork projects. By combining traditional forging techniques with a deep respect for historical authenticity, the high standards of these artisans perfectly align with the material quality provided by AK Steel International.

Preserving France’s Ironwork Heritage

One example of this collaboration can be seen in the work of artisan Thomas Morel at the Château de Médavy in Orne, France. The restoration work carried out on the estate’s monumental wrought-iron gate highlights the precision and expertise required for heritage conservation.

From the more robust portal elements to the elegant scrollwork and intricate heraldic details, the gate demanded a faithful restoration approach. Using ARMCO® Pure Iron, Thomas Morel recreated the portal elements and ornamental components with remarkable authenticity. Far from industrial reproduction, each leaf, curve and decorative motif was individually formed, hammered and refined by hand in the workshop, ensuring the structure endures for future generations.

Materials Serving Craftsmanship

For master blacksmiths, quality and material consistency are fundamental. The continued trust placed in AK Steel International reflects the company’s ability to provide materials suited to demanding artistic and architectural applications.

The products supplied are used across a wide variety of projects, including:
+ Restoration of historical gates, railings and ornaments
+ Contemporary architectural metalwork
+ Custom decorative iron elements and artistic blacksmithing

This versatility allows the workshop to move seamlessly between restoration projects rooted in centuries-old techniques and modern design.

AK Steel International is proud to support artisans and blacksmiths whose skilled hands keep the heritage of forged iron alive while bringing new artistic visions into the present day.
